Psychosomatic Disorders refer to medical illnesses causing psychiatric symptoms.
Symptoms and Diagnosis
Symptoms of psychosomatic disorders can include changes to mood, thinking, and impulse control.
Since medications prescribed for medical problems can cause these symptoms and be misdiagnosed as psychiatric conditions, we always reequest blood work and other tests that to rule out any possible organic causes.
We are very careful not to prescribe psychiatric medications if they are not needed. In several geriatric cases doing less helps more than adding another medication.
